If you’re like us, you love getting out on the water, but this natural gift needs our help, with marine pollution reaching unprecedented levels. Right now, there are over 8 million tons of plastic on our oceans, with little that is recycled. We know we can do better! Here’s how we are doing our part to turn the tide:

  1. Marine plastic is gathered and shredded. We utilize coastal recycling facilities so there is minimal fuel used for transportation.

  2. This shredded plastic is melted down and spun into yarn. Yes, melting the plastic down does take energy, but this is a net savings! According to Stanford University and the Peninsula Sanitary Service, one ton of recycled plastic saves 5,774 Kwh of energy, 16.3 barrels of oil, 98 million BTU's of energy, and 30 cubic yards of landfill space.

  3. The yarn is woven into our signature swim trunks fabric, and is ready to be dyed and printed; which is where our hand-drawn illustrations come to life!

Each one of our swim trunks uses about 10 plastic bottles worth of marine plastic. That’s a direct reduction in ocean pollution, and you get some comfortable and good looking trunks -- talk about a win win! We also donate a portion of every sale to our friends at the Coral Restoration Foundation™, the largest coral reef restoration organization in the world.

In addition to our swim trunks, our t-shirts are made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, and our caps are made sustainably in the USA for a short and efficient supply chain with local materials. We are dedicated to environmentally friendly practices and manufacturing for all of our goods, both in stock now and planned for the future.

We’re all in this together. We can all do our part to help our oceans. If you have any ideas or contacts to help us further our sustainability goals, please don’t be a stranger! Get in touch with us at hello@skiffdogs.com
